Nylon Overview
What is Nylon?

Nylon is a strong, machinable, and stiff engineering and mechanical thermoplastic with excellent toughness, dimensional stability, and wear resistance. It is also resistant to chemicals and has good electrical insulation properties. Nylon is available in many grades, each of which offers different properties. It is used to make industrial and medical tubing, as well as components for automotive, aerospace, and consumer goods manufacturing applications. Nylon plastic is also a popular choice for fasteners, wiring harnesses, electrical wire insulation, 3D printing, medical device parts, and other mechanical parts.

Customers Also Asked:
What is Nylon 6?

Nylon 6 is a strong and durable grade of nylon, making it ideal for industrial uses such as engineering components, machine parts, and industrial tools. It is also used for bearings, gears, and other moving parts.

What is Nylon 6/6?

Nylon 6/6 is a grade of nylon commonly used in industrial applications such as automotive components, conveyor belts, and electrical insulation. Nylon 6/6 is used machined parts including bushings or flanges. Consumer uses include apparel, carpeting, and other textiles.

What is the difference between cast nylon and extruded nylon sheet?

Extruded nylon sheet is produced by a continuous extrusion process and is more uniform and consistent in its properties. Cast nylon sheet is created by pouring a liquid solution of nylon into a mold and is more resistant to temperatures, chemicals, and abrasion than extruded nylon sheet. Cast nylon also has a higher impact strength and greater dimensional stability.

What kind of plastic is Nylatron?

Nylatron® is a brand name for a family of nylon plastics, usually filled with the lubricant molybdenum disulphide (MoS2). Nylatron® comes in different grades, which are often used in the production of machine parts, gears, and bearings.

What is the difference between nylon and Nylatron?

Nylon plastics are a group of synthetic polymers made from polyamides and Nylatron® is a brand name for a family of nylon grades with varying characteristics. All Nylatron® is a type of nylon plastic, but not all nylon is Nylatron®.

What is Nylon MD?

Nylon MD is a grade of nylon that has been reinforced with molybdenum disulphide (MoS2), a lubricant. This combination provides excellent wear and abrasion resistance, making nylon MD ideal for gears, bearings, and other power transmission components. It also has good cosmetic properties, making it suitable for products such as cases, covers, and housings.

What is moly filled nylon?

Moly-filled nylon is nylon plastic reinforced with molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) particles, which improves the physical and mechanical properties of the nylon, such as improved wear, heat, and chemical resistance, as well as increased stiffness and strength. Moly-filled nylon is used in many industrial applications including automotive and aerospace components, bearings, and bushings.

Is nylon different from plastic?

Polyamide, also known by the commercial name nylon, is a type of synthetic plastic material made up of polyamides with high molecular weight. Nylon is a low-friction plastic which makes it ideal for industrial applications or parts that experience high levels of friction and wear.

Is nylon plastic durable?

Nylon is a durable, tough, stiff, machinable engineering plastic with outstanding toughness and wear properties. Nylon parts replace metal components in many applications, oftentimes removing the need for external lubrication and extending part life.
