High impact polystyrene (HIPS), expanded PVC, fluted polypropylene, polycarbonate, and acrylic are all plastics commonly used for signage. Each signage material has its own strengths for signage, but typical properties include high strength, machinability, and light weight.

Styrene has great thermoforming properties and impact strength. Cost-effective, easily machined, and easy to print or paint on, styrene is a great choice for indoor signs, models, and displays. Styrene is not UV-stabilized.

Expanded PVC, also known as foamed PVC, is a cost-effective, durable signage material with excellent resistance to chemicals and good insulating properties. Expanded PVC is opaque enough to use as double-faced signage and can be screen printed, painted, and laminated.

Fluted polypropylene is waterproof, with great weatherability, chemical resistance, and stain resistance. Perfect for indoor and outdoor graphic applications, fluted polypropylene can be screen printed and accepts adhesives and vinyl lettering without issue.

Acrylic and polycarbonate offer excellent optical clarity, outstanding light transmission, and greater durability than glass.
